At Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV), we believe that the future of healthcare must be built with excellence, innovation and a commitment to making world-class care accessible to the people we serve.
It is with great pride that we announce the launch of our Robotic Surgery Programme, bringing advanced robotic-assisted surgical care to patients in Nigeria.
In partnership with RoboMed Global, we are introducing robotic surgery across Urology, General Surgery and Gynaecology, while building the clinical expertise, training systems and infrastructure required to support the growth of robotic surgery in Nigeria.
For us, this is more than the introduction of a new technology.
It is another step towards our vision of providing Nigerians with the standard of care they should be able to access anywhere in the world, right here at home.
A New Chapter at RHV
Robotic-assisted surgery represents an important advancement in modern surgical care.
At RHV, our robotic surgery system is operated by specially trained surgeons who control the robotic instruments from a surgical console. The technology does not replace the surgeon. Instead, it gives the surgeon enhanced visualisation, precision and control during appropriately selected procedures.
Depending on the procedure and the individual patient, robotic-assisted surgery may offer potential advantages associated with minimally invasive surgery, including smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, less postoperative discomfort and potentially faster recovery.
Every patient remains different, however, and robotic surgery is not automatically the right option for every condition. Our specialists assess each patient individually and determine the most appropriate surgical approach based on their diagnosis, medical history and clinical needs.
Why We Are Investing in Robotic Surgery

Our decision to introduce robotic surgery is rooted in a simple objective:
To expand access to advanced surgical care in Nigeria.
For patients requiring complex procedures, access to specialised treatment has sometimes meant travelling significant distances or seeking care outside the country.
We believe that Nigerian patients deserve the opportunity to receive advanced surgical care closer to home where clinically appropriate.
By introducing robotic surgery at RHV, we are creating access to a technology that is already transforming surgical practice globally while simultaneously investing in the people and systems needed to make that technology sustainable locally.
Our ambition is not simply to have a robotic surgical system.
Our ambition is to build robotic surgical capability in Nigeria.
Our Robotic Surgery Specialties
Our Robotic Surgery Programme currently focuses on three major surgical specialties:
Urology
Our robotic urology programme supports selected procedures involving the prostate, kidneys and urinary system.
These include procedures for appropriately selected patients with:
- Prostate cancer
- Kidney cancer
- Bladder cancer
- Benign prostatic enlargement
- Kidney conditions requiring nephrectomy
- Selected complex urological conditions
One of the key areas of our urology programme is robotic-assisted cancer surgery, where the precision and enhanced visualisation provided by the robotic platform can support surgeons during complex procedures.
Our programme has already demonstrated its potential through landmark robotic surgical procedures performed at RHV.
General Surgery
Our General Surgery robotics programme includes selected procedures involving a range of conditions, including:
- Hernias
- Gallbladder disease
- Appendicitis
- Intestinal cancers
- Thyroid conditions
- Selected liver conditions
- Other appropriately selected complex general surgical procedures
The suitability of robotic surgery is determined following a specialist assessment.
Gynaecology
Our robotic gynaecology programme provides access to minimally invasive robotic-assisted approaches for selected gynaecological conditions.
Procedures may include:
- Myomectomy for uterine fibroids
- Hysterectomy
- Selected gynaecological cancer procedures
- Other appropriately selected gynaecological procedures
Our goal is to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate treatment based on their individual clinical circumstances.
A Landmark in Robotic Surgery in Nigeria
The launch of our robotics programme represents an important milestone for RHV and for the development of advanced surgical care in Nigeria.
Through the programme, we have already demonstrated what is possible when advanced technology, specialist expertise and the right clinical infrastructure come together.

In collaboration with Nisa Premier Hospital and RoboMed Global, our programme has also been involved in a landmark tele-robotic surgical procedure, further demonstrating the possibilities that emerging surgical technology can create for the future of healthcare in Nigeria.
The procedure, a robotic-assisted radical nephrectomy, demonstrated the potential for specialist surgical expertise and advanced technology to connect across locations and expand the possibilities of complex surgical care.
For us, this milestone represents more than a successful procedure.
It represents a glimpse into the future we are helping to build.
Building Expertise in Nigeria
We understand that a successful robotics programme cannot be built around technology alone.
It requires people.
It requires surgeons who are trained to work with robotic systems. It requires theatre nurses and anaesthesia teams who understand the unique requirements of robotic procedures. It requires biomedical engineers and technical professionals who can support the technology. And it requires an institutional culture committed to continuous learning.
This is why training and capacity development are central to our partnership with RoboMed Global.
We are working towards creating opportunities for Nigerian healthcare professionals to develop the knowledge and skills required to participate in the future of robotic surgery.
Our long-term vision is to contribute to an ecosystem where advanced surgical expertise can be developed and retained within Nigeria.
Our Vision for Robotic Surgery in Nigeria
We see the introduction of robotic surgery as part of a much larger conversation about the future of healthcare in Nigeria.
Nigeria has a growing population with increasingly complex healthcare needs. As medical technology continues to advance, we must also continue to develop the expertise, infrastructure and systems required to deliver that technology effectively.
At RHV, we want to play our part.
We want to see more complex procedures performed locally.
We want to see Nigerian surgeons and healthcare professionals equipped with advanced skills.
We want to strengthen collaboration between hospitals and specialists.
And we want patients to have more opportunities to access advanced healthcare without automatically having to leave the country.
This is why Robotic Surgery in Nigeria matters to us.
It is not simply about introducing a machine.
It is about building capability.
Supported by the RHV Ecosystem

Robotic surgery does not exist in isolation.
Patients undergoing complex surgery may require diagnostic imaging, laboratory investigations, anaesthesia, intensive care, specialist consultations, physiotherapy and postoperative monitoring.
Our broader hospital infrastructure allows us to provide these services within an integrated healthcare environment.
At Redeemer’s Health Village, our investment in advanced diagnostic and clinical services including our advanced imaging capabilities, intensive care services, specialist clinics and surgical infrastructure supports our ambition to provide comprehensive care throughout the patient journey.
This integrated approach is central to how we view medical excellence.
